McGill First Aid Service

Mission Statement

McGill First Aid Service is a volunteer organization whose members are dedicated to providing emergency pre-hospital care at a First Responder level to the students of McGill University as well as the residents of the city of Montreal, whether this be at special events and/or functions where MFAS is the designated first aid authority or whether this be at the locations and times when MFAS is on call.

In addition to responding to emergencies, MFAS promotes safety to the students of McGill University and increases knowledge of dealing with emergency situations by offering courses in the following: Standard First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR-C), and Automated External Defibrillation (AED).

In the recruitment of its members and in the care of patients, MFAS remains impartial and neutral to race, sex, creed, religion, background, sexual orientation, financial status, political status, and disabilities.

About Us

McGill First Aid Service is a student-run volunteer organization providing pre-hospital care to the McGill community. We are on-call every night (11pm-7am) in Upper Rez (Gardner, Molson, McConnell, and Douglas), and we also cover Frosh events, intramural hockey games, Blues Pub, Gerts Pub, and other on-campus parties (i.e. Four Floors).

Upper Rez only:

(514) 398-1562, 11pm-7am, Molson room 100.

Why should you call us?
We will get there before an ambulance. We are on call every night in Molson Hall room 100, which means we can get to any location in upper rez within about 2 minutes. The average ambulance response time is 10-15 minutes. In many first aid emergencies, especially airway emergencies, risk increases dramatically after the first several minutes. We will help and stay with you until an ambulance arrives.

When should you call us?
Call us in any situation, major or minor, for which you need medical help. Don’t feel embarrassed to call us – we’re there to help you. If you’re unsure whether a situation will get worse, call us.
If it is a major emergency, call 911 first, and call us right after.

Request Our Services
for your event

Are you planning an event for the McGill or Montreal community?  Do you want to make it as safe as possible?  MFAS offers free first aid coverage at a variety of different special events, including parties, sporting events, charity walks/runs, and more.

Particularly if any of the following apply to your event, you may want to think about having first aid support on site:

Will you be serving alcohol?
Will there be large crowds?
Will there be physical activity?
Will your event be held in extreme hot or cold weather conditions?

PLEASE NOTE: All requests must be submitted a minimum of three weeks prior to the date of the event.  To avoid disappointment please submit your request as early as possible.  For more information, or to place a request, please contact our VP External, Theresa Howard, at mfas.external@gmail.com.
